Senegal's Charm

Dakar | Toubacouta | Saly

11 DAYS & 10NIGHTS

Journey Overview

This 11-day journey travels from colonial Dakar into the wild heart of Senegal's Saloum Delta, opening with Gorée Island's history and hands-on artisanship before venturing south to Toubacouta, where mangrove channels, walking safaris among free-roaming lions, and river life among the Serer people take center stage.

The journey returns north through Fadiouth's shell-built village and Somone's lagoon before closing with rest and farewell on the Saly coast; a deeper, slower immersion into Senegal's culture, wildlife, and waterways.

A ferry crossing to this UNESCO-listed island, where the House of Slaves and sand-carpeted alleys beneath centuries-old baobabs hold one of West Africa's most solemn histories.

Journey Highlights

A guided city tour tracing Dakar's colonial remains, the Kermel Market, the Monument of the African Renaissance, and Independence Square, followed by a hands-on Senegalese cooking class mastering thieboudienne and yassa under a local chef's guidance.

A visit to the local women's union processing fish products and pioneering rice seed nurseries in Missirah village, a quiet window into the Saloum Delta's community life.

Dakar Like A Local

Missirah's Women of the Rice Fields

A motorized canoe ride through the mangrove-lined meanders of the Saloum River to a bird-resting island for sunset, with a picnic lunch and Ataya tea on a desert island along the way.

Walking With Lions at Fathala

A 4x4 safari through the Fathala Reserve's 2,000 hectares of classified forest, culminating in a rare walk alongside free-roaming lions, among zebras, giraffes, and Derby elk.

On Gorée Island, a hands-on sand art workshop with a local artist, layering naturally colored sands into glass bottles inspired by Senegalese landscapes — a souvenir crafted by your own hand.

Fadiouth's Island of Shells

A wooden footbridge leads to a village built entirely on a mountain of shells, its stilted granaries and shared Catholic-Muslim cemetery a quiet testament to coexistence, with a stop in Joal, birthplace of Senegal's first president.

Time By the Atlantic

A free day for sun, sand, and an optional introduction to surfing along Dakar's celebrated coastline, and a farewell dinner with live music to close the journey.
